Sestina: No More Measures
Speaking freely I've conquered all
Applying faiths that endured time
Seeking truths that could never hide
Beneath all the sheltered light found therein
Must I be smitten bound in my youth
While others light candles honouring life
For there are burdens bound in life
I've survived and conquered all
As I have learned from the lessons of youth
There were thoughts through the passage of time
Honesty lies within the heart therein
No longer shall I seek to hide
As there are truths I cannot hide
And simplicity has blessed my life
As there is rhythm felt therein
And I've survived and conquered all
More are the riddles questioned in time?
For once I was burdened, left barren in youth
For I was happy but lost in youth
And now I have no more desire to hide
No longer shall I question time
There is hope that I cherish life
I have stood tall and questioned all
And there a waits the truth therein
Like sacred serpents awaiting therein
How I have honoured the fountain of youth
I've survived and conquered all
But there are truths I cannot hide
Marking the passage honoured with life
No more measures, measure time
Caught among the sands of time
Vipers listen and whisper therein
There is hope in honouring life
Remembering days surrounded by youth
And there are truths I cannot hide
As I've survived and conquered all
I have learned from the lessons of youth
Now I have no more desire to hide
For I have stood tall and questioned all
