Sestina Poems

Sestina poems traditionally originated in France, and sestina poems consist 7 stanzas. In the construction of a sestina poem the first six stanzas have six lines per stanza. In the last stanza there is a total of three lines.

Now the challenge with any sestina poem is its structure, the last word on each line of the first stanza make the structure 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, now in the second stanza the pattern would be as follows 6, 1, 5, 2, 4, 3, so that the last word ends each line in the new order.

The third stanza works form formula of the second stanza 3, 6, 4, 1, 2, 5,

Fourth stanza formula 5, 3, 2, 6, 1, 4,

Fifth stanza formula 4, 5, 1, 3, 6, 2,

Sixth stanza formula 2, 4, 6, 5, 3, 1,

Last stanza formula

3, 4
5, 6
